Hello Team,

Acme Corporation was rated one of the most successful companies in 2017 by Fortune magazine. And we couldn't have done it without your hard work. Unfortunately, working hard doesn't leave much time for meetings and conferences. To help solve this problem, the IT department will be introducing Jamboards in October 2017.

Jamboards are collaborative digital whiteboards. They allow individuals and groups to interact with each other in real time, similar to Google Docs. To create an item, write your information on the Jamboard, give it a title, and press Save. To add to an item, simply press the Start button, scroll to the item, select it and add your own notes, then Save. An email notification will be sent, alerting other contributors of changes. The best part is that you don't have to be in the same room; Jamboards will be installed in every conference room campus wide. All you'll have to do is locate your nearest conference room, create an item or add your notes, and continue with your day.

Hexagon Self Service Provisioning Process (virtual machine creation)

Hexagon Self Service Provisioning Process

The Self Service Provisioning Process helps create a VM in order to access the LG X-windows desktop. The LG X-windows desktop is the only GUI allowed to communicate with the DPC VM. 

LG 3.5 is not supported in the DPC. For additional questions or technical support, contact the Service Desk and open a ticket via email ( it-support@alia.com ) . Call the Service Desk (x7911) to escalate. An L2 Service Desk person will assist. 

Please Note: Utility accounts (i.e. service/shared accounts) are not allowed to connect to DPC. Only employee based ID accounts (jdoe@alia.com, mkay@alia.com, etc.) are allowed.

Self Service Process

Please Note: The process will take roughly 3 to 5 minutes, however hostname registry may take up to 30 minutes.

1.      Using Firefox, log on to  https://vdi.alia.com/clarity/index.html#/intro using the Single sign-on method (bottom of login screen).

This process uses Arcadia to authenticate; new users may be asked to authenticate more than once.

Please note: some users may receive an error message that states, "Sorry, you can't access X9-VDI because you are not assigned this app in Arcadia." If so, please contact the Service Desk using either email (it-support@alia.com), phone (x7911) or the IT website (https://it.alia.com).

2.      Choose Region as “CDN-SANJOSE” and Tenant “DPC” on the top right of the screen.  

3.      Click on New VM Instance in the upper right corner to begin.

4.      Click the radio button for the displayed configuration of the CPU/RAM. Only select an image that has “ACTIVE-” prefix. Click the NEXT button at the bottom.

5.      Select a network by checking the box. If there is more than one, select a network where Available IPs is greater than 0. The network names will be different for different regions. Click the NEXT button at the bottom.

6.      Enter an instance name (also known as a hostname). The instance name must be in lower case and must start with an “rklip-”. The naming convention is “rklip-loginid”. Do not enter any other information and do not check the multiple instances box. Click the NEXT button at the bottom.
Please Note:  If you must create additional VMs, please append a dash and a number to the end of the naming convention (i.e. rklip-loginid-02, rklip-loginid-03, etc.)

7.      Click the “cloud-init” check box. Do not enter any text in the Cloud-config box. Click the NEXT button at the bottom.

8.       The status icon under "State" may continue to spin for more than 20 seconds. To fix this problem, refresh the page using the Refresh button next to the Settings gear on the right side of the page. 

9.      To connect to the new VM, go here.

Job Submission

Where do I submit my job?

Users can submit jobs to the local servers.

How do I submit my job?

Users will login to the local host to submit jobs.

Location of Services

Do I have a Home Directory?

Users will each get a new home directory in the network. Out of server home directories will not be visible from hosts, but a final decision is pending. This FAQ will be updated once a decision is made.

Do I have to use the local host?

Yes. Only the local host will be used to get the DISPLAYs from interactive jobs.

Where is the Web server?

Web servers will be inside the local server.

What is the output location?

All data that needs to be written from jobs that were run in the network must be under the Asphalt location, the policy location or the storage filers located inside the network.

Shortcuts and Other Functions

Can I use cut and paste?

No. Users cannot cut and paste information outside of the environment. Users can send mail with the command by sending log commands outside the system.

Can I use SSH?

No. SSH is not allowed. 

Rider X (virtual desktop)

Rider X (Chrome)

Rider X is similar to Excel on Demand (EoD), but with additional security features that meet requirements in DPC.
Please Note: DISPLAY variables must not be set in .cshrc. You can get the DISPLAY value from the title bar of the EOD window.
 To install and connect with Rider X, perform the following steps:

Open Chrome and go to https://kaybee01 .

1.      You will receive an error message.  Click the Advanced link to continue. 

2.      Click the “Proceed to kaybee01 (unsafe)” link at the bottom.

3.      Enter your corporate username and password. Click Sign In to continue.

4.      Register on the signup screen.
Please Note: You are only required to fill out the first two fields. Click Save to continue.

5.      The launch wizard will open. Click Next to continue.

6.      The wizard will automatically detect your OS.  Click Download to download the client, then click Next to continue.

7.      Go to the download location for the client and open it. Click Next to continue. 

8.      Click the first radio button to accept the EULA terms and click Next to continue. 

9.      Click Install to continue. 

10.  Click Finish to continue. 

11.  The wizard will verify your setup. 

Please Note: Some users may get a client launcher error. Click Next, then Back in order to try again. 

1. Click the plus sign next to Profiles.  
2. Select “Default Custom Startup” as a template for the profile, then click the “Create Profile” button.
3. Enter a title for your new profile, then click on the Startup menu.
4. Select Custom Startup if it has not already been selected. Then click the “Plus” button.
5. Enter your kaybee01-username (kaybee01-jdoe, kaybee01-lchan, etc). In the Command box, enter the command for the correct session. If you are using KDE, enter /user/bin/startkde. If you are using Gnome, enter /usr/bin/gnome-session. Click the “OK” button when done. 
6. Click “Save”.
7. Mouse over the newly created profile and click the “Play” button. First time users will see a warning box. Select “Always open these types of links in the associated app”, then click the “Open ETX Client Launcher” button to continue.
8. Accept the certificate and click Next to continue. 
9. The desktop will launch.
